April RJI Newsletter
The FAA and RARA assures us the 2012 Pylon Racing Seminar will happen as planned 13-16 June. I want to remind and encourage all rookie air racers to send in their entry or contact me with your questions. Certified racers should plan to attend to become familiar with the new track layout, procedures, and rules.
On time entries (only the entry page and payment) are due to RARA by Friday, 4 May. After that date you can still register and attend with payment of an additional $100 late fee to RARA. All required paperwork in the PRS Entry package is due to the RARA Registrar no later than check-in on 13 June. If your paperwork is not acceptable to RARA, you will not fly on the course. So get it into Dana Searcy early for acceptance or resolution of any issues. Additionally, your annual Jet Class (RJI) membership fee of $200 and race number reservation fee is due prior to flying on course, the PRS tuition fee is for rookies only. These fees can be paid with cash, check, or credit card and PayPal via the www.racingjets.com website.
There will be a Jet Formation (FAST) Clinic at Stead before PRS running 9-12 June. It is hosted by CJAA, RJI, and Aviation Classics and will operate at the east end of the ramp in front of the Stead control tower. This is open to all pilots, not only air racers. CJAA charges a $125 fee for discounted fuel and food throughout the event. Instruction, recurrent, and evaluation rides for FAST Wing or Lead ratings will be available. Visit the CJAA website www.classicjets.org for more info or contact Mike Mangold or Doug Matthews.
The RARA designated hotel for PRS is the Eldorado in downtown Reno. Their discounted rate is $50 weekday/$100 weekend, daily transportation (13-16 June) will be provided by RARA, see entry package for details. Additionally, the Grand Sierra Resort, north of the Reno airport, is the designated hotel for the FAST clinic. Their discount rates are $49 weekday/$69 weekend, effect 8-17 June, covering the dates of the FAST clinic and PRS. See attachment below for booking info with the Grand Sierra. Ask for the "Sport Class Pilots" or "Classic Jets" discounted rates when booking via telephone.
Expect another mass mailing in mid May with specific information on pilot, support, and aircraft requirements for attending PRS. Meanwhile, if you have any concerns, doubts, or questions please contact Mike Mangold, Jeff Turney, or Curt Brown for clarification. The RJI BOD is updating our rules to reflect the new changes and will publish them on www.racingjets.com prior to PRS.
Good flying,
Mike Mangold
